Alfredo, from Venezuela, is one of the tens of thousands of refugees who traversed the treacherous Darien Gap to seek the possibility of a better life in the United States. According to Human Rights Watch, almost 250,000 people crossed through the Darien Gap in 2022. This number was surpassed in the first eight months of 2023. Approximately 500,000 people are expected to cross this migrant highway by the end of this year.
